The 24th winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 24th September 1799 over the 2 miles of Town Moor, was Cockfighter, a brown colt by Overton out of Palmflower, owned by Sir Henry Tempest Vane. A field of 7 runners contested the race, although there were 12 subscriptions of 25 guineas each, which was worth 300 Guineas. (Equivalent to £35,400 in 2017)
